2/10/2024 0 Comments Nyc tint exemption![]() Unless its 5-10% I dont think you'll have a problem going down to 25%.Īccording to the NY State Vehicle and Traffic Law under section 375-12, if you have a 1992 or later model year passenger car or station wagon, the side windows adjacent to AND behind the operators seat must have a light transmittance of SEVENTY PERCENT or greater. I just had my 328 done Thursday night and had 35% put on it just to avoid problems by going darker. (I woulda flipped if he had made him peel it off beacuse I wasn't in the car at the time). My friend that drove it one day got pulled over for speeding in it and the Trooper commented that it looked a little dark, but didn't cite him for the tint or make him peel it off. I have 15% (15% of light passes through) on the rear of my Celica and 25% on the sides and I've never had a problem. I've never heard of anybody having a tough time from PA State Troopers or local cops. Most ppl assume in PA 35% is legal, its not but its generally accepted. ![]() ![]() Now for factory tint, if the manufacturer tints the glass internally down to 70%, then that comment would apply, if its un-tinted, you can LEGALLY go down to 70% VLT (Visable Light Transmission) A lot of ppl interpret the PA law differently, like does that mean 70% tint, or 30% tint. good luckPa tint law states 70% light must be able to pass through your windows, on all windows. "most" cops will leave you alone with just the back done, however if you run into one thats having a bad day. I believe passenger cars are not allowed to anything but factory tint, at least down here in pa.
